C.M.I. Web portal and privacy protection

Web portal and data protection

The new GDPR is implemented as of May 25th, and of course it must also be abided in Austria. In the past weeks, we've been asked about what's important for entrepreneurs in regards to the C.M.I. and the web portal when it comes to privacy and data protection.

What you need to know about the Web portal as a user

When registering an account to the web portal, a valid e-mail address, your name and address data are saved on a server within the EU. Your password is encrypted according to current methods and saved to databases, making them inaccessible even to our employees. The connection between your computer and the web portal is always subject to SSL encryption.

Data of the devices in your system(s) is only saved for the duration of the transfer between the C.M.I. and your computer. C.M.I. logging data is also only saved temporarily to be forwarded to Winsol. Online logging data, as far as established,  can be deleted by you at any point over any desired timeframe. Your personal data is only saved for e-mail notifications that are relevant to you (maintenance, important changes etc.).

What's going to change because of the implementation of the GDPR on May 25th, 2018?

The web portal has and will continue to conform to data protection and as such, nothing will change. We will merely follow up on regulations concerning documentation and disclosure of information on our side.

Legal aspects regarding C.M.I.s in customer's systems

We generally recommend that you only register C.M.I.s to your web portal account that you actually own yourself. C.M.I.s in systems of customers should simply be made accessible to you by the customer. From a data protection point of view, this also offers the advantage of customers themselves agreeing to terms of data processing with us as they register an account with our web portal. In how far logging data is even sensible in terms of personified data (as in "can be directly associated with a person") or other such topics, depends on the system and its configuration. That's partially also up to chosen designations and descriptions given to the C.M.I. in the overview of the web portal.

Isolated operation of the C.M.I.

You can optionally choose to use the C.M.I.s solely in a local network without losing any amount of its functionalities. This keeps the system remotely accessible within one's own network, without any data ever reaching the outside (cloud-free).
